Hey all! Please help. Will the auto transmission in a 85 740 diesel,which I have access to in another state,fit in a 86 740GLE wagon ,it is also an auto?I have a chance to buy the wagon but Don't know if it's a very good deal because of the trans.Sellers asking $700 w/228K interior fair any advice would be helpful.

It is the same transmission guts, but the bell housing is different. You may have enough pieces to make one work.

A much better and more reliable swap is to get the trans from an 88-up 740, along with the driveshaft and shifter, and then you have a nice reliable AW70 like the rest of the Volvo world.

Same trans used in all auto 240s from 83-on.

I already have the 85 diesel 740 with bad motor and good interior that I have to go get so was hopeful they would just interchange.The diesel car is pretty much conplete.I was just wondering if the wagon would by worth buying to make a good driver with what I have.
