awesome, awesome mobile! love the exhaust, did it make a diff? and, how loud is it, as compared to say, a glass-packed "turbo" muffler that some of the parts houses carry as an alternative to a stock muffler, and how much, if you don't mind me askin? i'm havin a bitch of a time installin a stereo in my daughter's '85 244 DL, don't understand why the wires @ the speakers are a different color than what is at the stock harness, but,i'll soon sort it all out! anyway, enjoy, your wagon looks awesome, i'd be proud to drive it! louis

It does flow freer and increased hp a little. If i can get a sound bite of it i will try to get it up so you can check it out. There is a little popping when the engine revs down. It was a bitch to get the speakers in the back doors. me and my dad custom cut holes then i ran the wire. I installed the bass tube myself, and i had the new head unit installed, because it took a diff wiring harness and i didnt feel like messing with that.

The muffler isn't all that loud. And because of the size of it, it gives a deeper sound ( not the nasty sound you hear from the civics). It only cost me 50 for the muffler and then for the install it was just under 100, due to the piping that had to be added and the removal of the resonators. I installed all my audio myself and rewired the speakers so it would match. But then again that was with the first headunit i had. If you aren't the original owner, then the previous owner could have just attached new wiring at the speakers and didnt change it all the way through. If you were to find were it runs through the doors and under the dash that might help. i love driving my car. tyler

Very nice! I wish my engine compartment looked that good -- lots of corrosion. I assume the bass tube is for better bass response, but I'm not familiar with it. Is it essentially a subwoofer? I would go with interior mods in your situation, but then I'm partial to comfortable cruising and don't care much about performance. Anyway, really clean car, congrats!

The bass tube is a model from Bazooka. It is an 8" subwoofer that is pre-amped(built-in 50 watt). It isn't annoyingly loud it just makes it sound nice. I plan on adding race buckets, because my drivers seat is broken down on the right upright side. I am also lowering it 1.6" with new suspension.

No Offence But...

Hey man I'm the first one to appreciate individuality and creativity, but the last time I saw a 240 with one of those so called "performance mufflers", it sounded like a fart on wheels. Your money would have been better invested in a 240 Turbo rear muffler, and piping to eliminate the 2 resonators under the passenger side. Same freer flowing effect, much less noise and dyno proven to generate 12 more HP.

As far as a "cold air intake" is concerned, don't bother. It won't do a damn thing for your car except make more throttle noise. You'll notice that your 240 has a huge air filter plus thick, short, direct piping to the AMM and intake plenum. The Volvo engineers did that for a reason. Lots of filter area to maximize air flow instead of a stupid little cone, and a nice big air filter box to drown out throttle noise. Get yourself a new paper filter that fits into the stock location and you're good.

Your only real other option to generate more power out of your N/A 240 would be a performance camshaft. You can get a new one from IPD for around 200, or you can get a used "A" or "K" cam from a fellow brickboarder.

240's don't have a lot of options outside of a turbo conversion when it comes to making more HP, the fun part is suspension goodies which are plentiful.

Cheers!

Hey, thanks for the info. My muffler isn't all "fart" sounding. It is just a deep hum. I have no idea how the turbo mufflers sound. but i like the way my car sounds, although i do have an issue with a little popping in the exhaust when the engine is revving down. What would be the best camshaft to get, because that is what i wanted to do. I what to get the one that produces the most hp.
