Replace dash? Help

Thank you in advance for those who can help.

I have a 92 240 gl and it is in mint conditionexcept for the dash it is full of cracks and it's a shame because the rest of the car is a jem. I was wondering I saw a dash on ebay that would go nicely with my car. I have seen the covers you can buy but I would prefer to replace the dash. Has anyone ever changed their dash? How complicated is it to do? Or should I just buy the cheesy dash cover and forget about it. Also if I can change it what should I use to keep it in good shape? I used armorall and my dash still cracked?

    Replace dash? Help

    Hi!

I've replaced at least 3 dashes, most recently last summer putting an 89 dash into our 83 240 V8. Seems like they all crack sooner or later--but keeping the sun off of them definitely seems to help here in VA.

I've gotten 2 of the replacements from "Strandbergs" used parts up in Wisconsin. The first one was about $75 (and in perfect shape). Purchased in 92, it went until 2003 with no cracks. I bought another up there last year for about the same price.

I think ytour 92's dash is different from the 80's models to allow for the knee pad under the driver's side. Not sure what years will fit your car (90 to 93?)--you may want to check with your local parts department to make sure you get the right one.

As far as how long it takes to replace it, it's usually a full day's work for me--but then I'm also doing other stuff "while I'm in there" (new blower motor, installing electric mirrors, or other projects). Best advice is get a good manual (Bentley) and check in here on the board if you run into problems.

    Hope this helps,

    Steve A-
