Headgasket Job Complete Thanks to all but still not right 700

Hello all,

1989 Volvo 740 124,000 Rex Thanks for all your help in recent posts I did my headgasket and I think I did a good job, compression is great but now there are still some issues I must tackle. Problem #1 Seems like fuel is getting in the crankcase. Thinning the oil and seeping throught the cover, I smell the fuel pretty good, I already got a new FPR and ECT what next?? Leaky injectors or 02 sensor I guess?? Problem #2 Not much power up hills. Now would any advise bringing it to a Volvo dealer for diagnosis on the computer or Is it a waste of money?

Thanks, John

No codes in your OBD box? I would expect a bad 02 sensor to throw some code, even if it didn't directly say 02.

It's fairly easy to pull out all the injectors, still on the fuel rail. Then turn the key to 'on'. This should pressurize the system and you should see dripping if any injector leaks. Don't forget the cold start injector under the intake manifold. An easy way to eliminate that for testing is to clamp off the fuel line to it, but my old line was split when I took the clamp off, so be careful.

This is an interesting story. Please tell us how it ends. My suggestion is that you stay cool, replace the FPR, if that doesn´t help go along the advice by signature "interstition" and then come back with your experience. At least I would be interested in hearing what you find and feel that you should not throw in the towel.

If you have a dealer like the one close to me, it might be a good idea. I had stayed away from dealers because I thought that it would cost too much. Thing is if the tech is really well trained, and also not so bone-headed that he thinks he knows it all ...then a good dealership can really do you good. He will get the part fixed right and quick.
