95 960 fuel pump S90-V90

I am about to replace the fuel pump on my '95 960. It has a single in tank pump. I called fcp groton and they told me it was neccessary to replace the fuel level sending unit as well.

Last year I changed a pump on a 945 w/ Regina fuel system, and by splicing a couple of wires was able to replace just the pump. Is this possible on the 960?
Does anyone know of a source for a pump only?

I replaced the fuel sending unit (only) on our 95 960 last year. I had to modify the wires on the original pump to fit the new sending unit but it was not a problem and has worked fine since.

I replaced both the pump and the sending unit. The new pump came with an electrical connector which would of enabled me to make a simple connection to the old sending unit. The difference I noticed was the addition of 2 electrical components in the leads to the pump (the wires attached to the sending unit). They are shaped like a large resistor with a copper coil around them. Do you know what these are? They seem to be the reason Volvo wanted me to spend an extra $100.

I replaced the pump only on my '96 two years ago. I got the pump from my local friendly Volvo dealer parts guy.

I think that's what I'll do, go to the dealer. It's just that I have had so many negative experiences with Volvo dealers over the years. That's how I came to the Brickboard, looking for a source of information I couldn't get from Volvo.

I love the cars. Driving Volvos and working on them is a pleasure for me. I long for a local friendly Volvo dealer. Their prices are high (VCOA membership helps) and they treat you like crap when compared to aftermarket suppliers.

Please forgive the rant. Thanks for the advise... David

I consider myself very lucky to have my relationship with this dealer.

9438756, I see it as being available from World Pac and SSF. List price is $250.00 and that is a pump only.

That's the same part number fcp groton told me would require a new sending unit as well. I'm guessing something has changed with the new pump, so as it will not fit the old bracket. David

Yes, I have done a couple of these change up pumps but they were not in the 960. They new pump is shorter and has a different electrical hook up. I know that you can make them fit in an 850 but I do not know how it would work in a 960. Truthfully though, I have gone away from using those pumps and now just put in a complete pump/sender assembly. The first one of the new style pumps I did boomeranged on me so I said to heck with it and now install the more expensive option of a pump/sender assembly.
