My 89 745 TIC had to be started three times this morning. The first time, I started it, it cranked and then the RPm raced from 1000 to 2000 and then back again twice, before cutting off completely. I waited 15 seconds, started it again and it did it shut down again. I waited another 15 seconds and gave it some gas for 10 seconds and it worked just fine. Any ideas, throttle body? This car has 245k miles, and is in great shape. I drive only 10 miles a day in three trips. Let me know any ideas.

It could be the idle air solenoid. Mine did the same thing before I cleaned it.

Check valve at the fuel filter?

I imagine that you have changed the filter normally, but sometimes the check valve does not get changed out.

What is this check valve? Is it before the filter itself? And where would I find a new one if this one needs to be changed?

The check valve at the fuel pump exit is intended to assist warm restarts by keeping pressure in the system (to prevent fuel line vapor lock from hot engine heat soak).

IMO, it has nothing to do with your problem.

At the fuel filter - toward the front of the car - it is on the opposite end of the short horizontal line leading out of the filter.
