Does 740 Accessory Plate fit a 240? 700

I'm reposting this message from the 200 thread since it got no replies there and has since moved down the message listing into oblivion:

While scouring a junkyard for parts last week, I came across this 740Tic:

It's got an accessory plate! Inspired by this eBay auction, remembering that the 740s and 240s had rear ends with similar dimensions, and examining the rear end of Eric Stauffer's 240, I would like to know, will a 740 accessory plate fit a 240?

Sadly, I can tell that there are some minor differences, but will they prevent fitment? It looks like the part that's flush with the taillights is wider on the 740 versions than on the 240 version.

If it does work, that one is all mine! How do I go about extracting it from the rear end without breaking/damaging it? How can I play this part off as something not worth a lot of money? (They're asking $65 for a power antenna, so if I make this part out to be a big deal they'll undoubtedly up the price.) I'll planning on just calling it a license plate holder, so we'll see how that goes.

I've got one on my '90 740GL (bought it from a dealer in Philly in '92); to take it off, all you should need to do is remove the license plate holder and it fits in between the holder and the rear of the car (has screw holes that match up to the license plate holder).

I don't know if it will fit on a 240, without having to cut some off the edges (it is wider than the 240 one).

Don't know what you can tell the junker, but good luck! By the way, what condition were those tailights in when you looked at the car?

Okay, so it sounds like it will mount--the only problem is the width, and how it looks (it looks like the raised edges have a different indentation for the 240 and 740 versions).

At least one of the tail lights was in really good condition. I was a bit disappointed that this junkyard only had three 240s that had been in there for quite a while, but if I were the owner of a 740, I would have had a field day. There were 740Tics all over the place.

What's the name of the yard and where are they located-do they have a website? I'm always on the lookout for good part sources for my 90 740.

I don't think they have a website. I went to Auto Salvage New & Used Import Parts, Inc., in Greenville (technically Greer), South Carolina. Their phone number is (864) 877-4968. I'm not sure how often they get Volvos, but they had a substantial-sized lot. I only spent about forty minutes walking around, but I saw three 240s (including a 1980 244 DL) and probably seven or eight 700-series cars.
