R12 - R134a Compatible 200

The air conditioner canister dohickey (dryer?) in the engine compartment has a blue sticker that states something like "Dessicant compatible with r12 and r134a". Does this mean my A/C has been converted to r134a? How can I tell if if r12 or r134a is in the system? The canister has 1 port on it. I guess that's the fill valve? I'm pretty handy, but the a/c system mystifies me.

    Hello Stan,
the drying agent inside the can can be used for both r12 & r134 systems. it does not mean your car has been retrofitted for r134.

tony is right, the suction and maybe the discharge ports should have the new r134 fittings, if your car has been converted.

no other way of getting r134 in there. my volvo conversion kits (for both the expansion valve type and gm-style systems) had a blue round stickers that reads something like "retrofitted for r134" and another sticker that has something you fill your name & date of conversion.

    what year is your volvo?

    regards,

The only way to know for sure is if a blue label, stating the R134 conversion has been made, is found in the engine compartment. Also, you might find a plastic R134 marker on the compressor port.

Another sure sign, is if the compressor high and low ports have the R134 fittings with the distinctive red and blue caps.

Let us know what you find.

    Tony
