Coolent Sensor Question 900

Is the coolent sensor in the back of the head on a 960 the same sensor thats located in the front of the engine also? If not the same, can anyone give me the part #s for these?
While replacing this sensor in the back of the head will I have to remove the coolent hoses located back there as well.
Thanks for all replies

Coolent Sensor Question 900

If your car is a '96 or later, with the OBD-II Motronic 4.4 ECU, there is no sensor at the back of the engine. The one on the thermostat housing is it. The ECU reads the temperature and runs the fan and gauge.

Coolent Sensor Question 900

Thanks Jbowers, I have a 97 model and have been looking for the dang thing, knowing that there was one back there. I replaced the one next to the thermistat back around 2 years ago. So I guess if thats the only one , I'm in good shape.

Coolent Sensor Question 900

no they are different. 9186486 is the one on the thermostat housing it operates the guage and electric fan on the radiator it has a pigtail with 2 wires and plastic connector. i think the one on the back of the head is 9186773 it does not have a pigtail on it. it sends information to the ecu. also you do not have to remove the heater hoses to get to it. but if you do there will be more room to work.
