I recently blew the engine in my 1987 760 Turbo. Could someone please recommend a good replacement vovlo engine. I am not mechanically incline and will be relying on a mechacnic. Are all Volvo engines from 86-95 a direct drop in fit (no modification necessary). Are there any good but inexpensive volvo mechanics is the Louisville, KY area.

The 740T/760T engines from 85-89 ought to be identical.

The later engines have LH 2.4 injection, and fit with minor changes. The crank sensor needs to be deleted from a later engine, and some sensors mounted on the head will be incorrect. The ones from the old engine will swap right over.

The 940 engines and very late (91-92) 740 engines will have improved bearings, and hopefully will not fail again in the way you experienced. If I were you, I'd seek out one of these. If your turbo is OK, it can be transplanted and save you some money.

Should be a pretty straightforward engine swap for any shop. Expect to pay 8-10 hours labor though.

Any B230 FT engine should work. I'd start looking for one in a salvage yard. Is the turbo on your old engine any good? I'd put the engine in for you if you were closer. I live in Charleston, WV ( about 4 hours from you). I've seen good used engines for around $300. It isn't really that hard of a job to change one.

Yes the turbo seems to work well!

Any B230FT will work - but the 93-95 models are the epitomy of design on this motor.
