Insulating the firewall? 140-160

I've been told that there are various methods for blocking the heat that tends to radiate through the firewall on older Volvos. (My 164's only somewhat more bearable than the 544 I learned to drive on years and years ago.) Has anyone got a recommendation on material and where to purchase? The heat wave's about to hit here in North Carolina, and I'm getting ready as best I can...

I've found that the stuff that J.C. Whitney sells -- about 3/8th inch felt backed with reinforced aluminum foil -- does a pretty good job. Make sure though that you install it in such a way that it doesn't impede gas pedal travel. It helps to put it over the tunnel too. Foil side goes towards the heat source.

I wonder if I could put that stuff on the bottom side of the hood? I would only worry about trapping water and creating a haven for rust.

I would also worry about fire...
