I have a 960 1994 with only 65000 miles. The car was excellent before accident. After accident I have smashed hood, fenders, bent frame, engine brackets are broken, two blown air bags, broken windshield. The car drives and shifts. Clear title.
The question is what to do. I post this car to http://chicago.craigslist.org/car/67503379.html
so far no luck in selling it. Is 800$ too much?
I don’t think I'm able to repair it. May be post it to Ebay, but I don't feel like paying posting fee, and then sell car for 200$. So far best offer is 150$ to junk yard.
Thank you.

Sekal,
Where is the car located? I have a 1994 960 as well with 110,000 miles on it. Perhaps I can buy your wreck from you for a few hundred $ and park it at my mechanic's shop and have them use it for parts to keep mine running.
What color is/was it?

I'm in Chicago. The color is dark blue, a little bit green. The interior is tan or bagel.

A few weeks to a month ago, there was a guy that posted that somethning in his 94 960 engine came apart, either a crank or connecting rod and was looking for an engine. Take a search back and see if there is some possibility in you two hooking up and putting the car to good use. I don't think it is econimically feasible to repair your car, would cost more than it is worth. It does have value as a source of parts though I dont know how your neighbors would like to see a parted out car sitting in the driveway for any length of time. Good Luck.

I would LOVE to buy your car, but how to get it from Chicago to the Twin Cities? I wouldn't want to pull 3500 pounds behind my 850.
Then I would have to find someone who wants to buy a B30e engine! With 3sp auto tranny. :)

Hi
Just a technical question. It appears there is a picture attached to your post, but all I see is a small box with at red cross in it. If I right-click on it, one of the options is "show picture", but nothing happens.
Any ideas, anyone?
thanks

If possible, I would fix it, it does not look to bad. I have a neighbor who wreaked his nissan altama, and IMHO when the car was new it was junk, but insurance company fixed it. In that case, it seems like they should fix your Volvo, as it is 100 times the car the Altama is.

Saw a post not long ago from a 960 owner in which the timing belt broke at road speed. while it might not have destroyed the engine, there is likely somewhere a 960 owner looking for a good engine. That may be your best way to recoup some $$$. Part out or junk the rest.
Sorry,
Bob

If the airbags were the onlything that makes it cost prohibitve to fix, you might consider fixing it without the airbags. I would be honest about it if you ever sold it, but especially if you were going to drive the car for another 100k, that might be a good option. Sure, it would not have airbags, but heck, the 89 and older 240s never had them and some 740s never had them either. It's up to you as to what you want to do, but, its an option. PS I take no responiblity for the saftey of this car if you do that, but this is something to consider.

By the looks of it, the frame damage is just in the front crumple area. That in itself is not out of line to repair. Engine mounts sheering is nothing unusal, as it is part of the Volvo design to move down and under if necessary.
Alas, the largest expense in this is replacing the deployed airbags, pretensioners, and related trim pieces in the deployment. My guess is that this in itself would run at least $4000 in new parts.
To the right audience, this is the perfect parts donor car. By the rest of the car's mileage/condition, the price is not out of line IMHO. As this car is pretty much only a Volvo nut will buy, I would list it in the classifieds section at the site here and at iPd's classifieds section.

That's a shame that such a low mileage 960 is damaged beyond repair. If you're willing to mess with the hassle, I would think you could recoup several hundred $$$ by selling some of the parts such as tail lights, interior pieces, and those parts already requested. Plus, there have been several recent posts to this board from people who have had to replace engines for various reasons.
I hope all the occupants are well. Just curious: we read so much about the safety of these cars. How did it do in the collision, especially compared to how you think other cars may have fared?
By the way, if you decide to part some of it out, I need a driver side headlight assembly (although it sounds like it probably didn't survive), center console, and a set of floor mats if they're dark (gray, preferably).

All of the occupants are very well. My wife was driving, two of my daughters were on a back seats. 1 year old was in a child seat, 7 years old was not buckle up. No one even was scared. Not a scratch! It is a safe car. I do not think the accident was to big, but damage is serious. I think if it would be my mercedes 300SD I would drive it home from accident. I bought another 960 1996.
I hope to sell this car in one peace. But if not I may start parting it out in a 2-3 weaks.
Sekal.

If you decide on the junk yard. Could I buy a couple of minor things, headlight switch, wiper relay, 3rd brake light housing, CD player? I know there are other items. I am in the Chicago area too.

I don't know what Erie Volvo pays for their cars but they may give you more than your local guys. I dunno about the shipping or pickup options they have- may not be worth it, but get in touch and see if it's something they want.
It looks like a great parts car, and surely the engine is worth that much to someone who needs one.
