power windows 200

Our "new" '90 244 front pax power windows won't work, the rear work fine. I am getting power to the switch and down to the window motor. Before pulling and replacing is there anything else to try?
Thanks--Russ 90 245, 90 244, 87 245

I should have stated that I hear the relay close when I operate the driver's side sw. for the front pax window. The front pax window doesn't work with it's own sw. or the driver's side switch. The rear windows work ok with both the driver's sw and their own sw. I've cleaned the switches and checked them with an ohm meter and they appear ok. I will try to hot wire directly to the motor.

As far as I know, the only relay for the windows supplies power to the switches- they actually control the power going to the window motors, i.e. connect the motor + to - for up, - to + for down.

The switches are the usual problem- you'll find very pitted and burnt black contacts inside. They're silver- file them smooth and they should work fine. It is possible that the window won't work from either switch due to a poor connection at one door.

Take apart all the switches and clean them, and see what you get. Much easier in any case than delving into the doors.

A very fine screwdriver, such as jeweler's screwdrivers, will be of great help in getting the switch panel out, and the switches apart. Be careful of the snap-together tabs on the switches.

I have a 93 960 series and I was having some of the same problems, everything works BUT the actual moving of the window. I took the car to the mechanic and he said it was the switches, that cost $32, so instead I took apart the switches myself and cleaned them. This was about more than 4 months ago. I havent had a window problem since. This should fix your problem because we have the same kind of switches, and I would also suggest the same as "twofourty"- Get some towel out because there is a rollerball and two small thin parts that will pop out FAST. I hope you get this fixed, I had my window down 5 inches during a rain storm......so I cleaned the switches :)

Does pax window work from drivers side, and not pax side ? I'd clean switches before pulling everything apart. Take your time, and pry apart the switches. Be carefull not to lose the little spring and rocker ball....they want to scatter in all directions if you seperate the switch halfs to quickly. Clean the inside of the switch(es). To date, I haven't replaced a window motor on any of the many bricks I've owned.

Enjoy.

The driver's side will not operate the drivers or front pax windows, the front pax window will not operate from it's own switch either. I did replace the driver's side switch assembly with one pulled from the junk yard. I guess it's time to try the hot wire and pulling the switch apart.

check to see if the motor works....You can test it using
a hot wire and ground, reverse the wires to the motor to roll up,
revers wires again to roll down.
