buying 9xx advice+tranny Q 900

Hello,

I am considering replacing my 245Ti with a 945T/965.
I love the 245, but it is 21 years old and has many little things it needs like most older cars. I'd like something newer that I don't have to thinker with so I can spend my time restoring other cars.
Is the 965 as troublesome as it seems? It am leaning toward a 945T because of the tunability of the turbo engine and a generally simpler design.
My main question is wether on any 940/960's does the transmission interact with the engine ECU? Whatever I buy I would convert to manual transmission, so I'd like to know if the ECU or OBD 1/2 interacts with the tranny to where a conversion to manual is not possible.
I already have a M46 with the P-type OD and I have sources in Europe where I can find the interior trim for the conversion.
Thanks in advance,

The answer is Yes, the aw3040 gear box does interact with the motronic fuel injection system. I have never seen a manual transmission on a B6304F motor but it would not suprise me to find out that they make them. I do not believe that an M46 would bolt up though, the bell housing has got to be different between the two engines. I have had little to no problems with the 1993 960 that I have been running for the past couple of years, 200K on it. The auto gear boxes in the 960's are pretty solid. You will see the ocassional gear position sensor or torque converter solenoid go bad in them but by and large they are a good gear box. Ther are real easy on fluid and do not seem to burn the stuff up the way the AW5042 (850) boxes do. If you have to have a manual trans and you already have an M46 on hand then I would just stick with the 940T platform.
