89 244 Missing/ Hesitation Problem 200

Brickboarders, I have a problem for you

I have an 89 244. It has a motor out of my other old 89 244 that was wrecked. Has been running fine for a year or so until now.

It has a hesitation around 2000 rpm or so that is a miss and when it occurs, it will not rev over 2000rpm or so. It is not dependent on load, as it does it in neutral and reverse (yeah, go figure). It is like it is running low on fuel.
I have replaced the following things: Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, in tank fuel pump, coil, it has a new(er) O2 sensor, FPR, and a new ECU coolant temp sensor. It has more than a 1/4 tank of gas when it does this and it is warm 90% or so of the time when it does this.

I changed the fuel pump out yesterday and cleaned out the throttle body. It ran fine without the miss with the exception of a high idle that I think is caused by a bad throttle body gasket that I will replace tomorrow for longer than usual today until I parked it and went into walmart where I came out and it did it again.

My question is, what else do I need to look at replace? I have a hypothesis that an oil leak on the back of the head only when hot is leaking on the Crankshaft position sensor and causing me problems cause it does not do it all of the time. Does that seem likely? Im going to crawl under it tomorrow and take it off and clean it to see if that helps. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Whitt

Air flow meter (mass meter)? Un-plug it and see what it does.

89 244 Missing/ Hesitation Problem 200

I have, but it is running almost like it is in "limp home" mode. I am going to swap out it when I swap out the known good one from my brother's 89 when I swap computers.

Thanks for the help everyone.

On-board diagnostic? Trouble codes? 200

Hmmmm. Crank sensor means you have the LH 2.4 fuel injection, right? (Others who know more, please correct me if I am wrong). LH 2.4 has the on-board diagnostic system. Have you checked it for trouble codes?

The Haynes and Bentley manuals will explain how to to this.

Good luck.

On-board diagnostic? Trouble codes? 200

Coolant Temp sensor codes, but they have been there long before the symptoms have arose when the mechanic fixed a cold start problem. None else that I know of. So the CPS seems like a bad hunch?

Thanks for the help

I would not think the crank sensor is your problem. That's magnetic and oil will not affect it. Besides, the crank sensor would cause a problem at any speed and usually will completely stop the engine and make for occassional not starts.

It sounds like you have been checking things out fairly good, but have you checked all your vacuum lines for leaks, as well has the intake hoses? Sounds like an issue with not getting proper fuel/air ratio at higher speeds. So starving for air due to leak or low fuel pressure. If the fuel filter has not been changed in quite a while, might want to consider that.

I'm sure others with more 240 experience will have more info.

Gary. The fuel filter was replaced if I recall last year when the motor was put in, so I guess thats a possibility. I just dont want to crawl up under there, but if it necessitates that, then I will. I have checked for vaccum leaks for the most part but I will do a more thorough check tomorrow. Would they be intermittant though? I wouldnt think so.

Thanks for the help.
