Thanks to the board! - Caliper Pin Question? 700

90 760 T Sedan 212,000 miles

Replaced my front rotors, all four sets of pads and the second NIVOMAT (replaced the first one - that had failed - a few months back) on Friday....did the whole job in under three hours (with no impact wrench).

Just wanted to thank Steve Ringlee (7XX/9XX Maintenance Hints) and all the Volvo faithful on this board as reading about the various projects over the past year or so made the job(s) a snap.

One question for you "experts" What is the spec diameter for the caliper pins? I mic's mine at ~9.754 mm (.384") They feel noticeably loose in the caliper slides. I have always heard them rattling at low speeds. I know this is an abstract question/ Thanks in advance!

Thanks to the board! - Caliper Pin Question? 700

Hi there, I've recently replaced my front calipers and found that the rattling pin situation is easily corrected by packing the hole with white lithium grease. This is what holds the pins steady, not the OD of the pins themselves. My calipers have never rattled since.

Thanks to the board! - Caliper Pin Question? 700

Yea, the brickboard has been a great place to share information. I have been doing most of my own work on my Volvo's for about 15 years. I'm a computer programmer and it's nice to work on mechanical things as a hobby and sometimes nessesity. The board has given me the confidence to tackle jobs that several years ago I would have not attempted. The upside is also that I know its done right, and if not, it didn't get hazed for a hatched job.

    Gary
