240 Acc. guages in 740 700

Hey Guys,
I've looked all in the 700/900 faq and cant find it so here goes:
Is is possible to remove 240 acc guages (i've seen some at the yard) and install them in a 740. I can source a seperate mounting plate, just wondering if its possible to pull the guages (what all will i need to pull) and if they will work?

Well first off I love the scenery where is it up state NY maybe. It makes me home sick, thats where I'm from. Well I have done alot of crazy--to some people-- modifacations to volvo's but I think your asking for a lot of work you would have to trace all the wires to see where they go and then modify the instrument housing to make them fit. Anything can be done all you need to get the guages out of both cars is a screw driver phillips. You would probably have to take the plugs and wires as well. it sounds like a major project good luck and happy motoring. If I can help with parts let me know---Chuck the Volvo finder 818-708-7052

Yes you can. I had a VDO 3 gauge pod that was adhesive to the flat spot on the dash right beside the Turbo gauge. I had a calibrated Turbo, oil pressure and oil temperature gauges installed. I got the pod at Summit racing. Before that I had gone to Radio Shack and got one of their project boxes and installed the oil gauges in that. It didn't look bad but could have looked better. But due to the fact that I never saw over 200 degrees F. on the oil temperature gauge and the Saab APC system is pre-set at 14 psi I went back to factory gauge in the cluster and tossed the oil temperature gauge in the parts box. The oil pressure gauge I ended up installing in the dash. It looks really good where I put it.
I installed it between the ignition switch and the climate control unit. If you decide to put one there make sure you use a gauge with the metal U type bracket to hold it in place. I had a VDO unit that had a plastic screw on like a bottle cap thingy to hold it and it was too wide. Lucky for me I had another oil pressure unit laying around with the metal bracket. If you didn't know VDO makes all of Volvo's gauges. In fact the oil temperature sender in my car is from a Volvo 240. You can get pillar pods from IPD that will fit on the A pillar between the door and the windshield and your 240 units should pop right in.

      Hey Al,
I went to the yard today and ALL the gauges out of EVERY 240 were gone. I'll try in two thursdays when the cars are fresh. I have a boost gauge on the pillar. I'm looking to get oil temp, oil pressure, and air/fuel mixture. The first two i can probably get from a 240. What all do i need to pull from the car to get them wired in my 90 740Ti? For the air fuel mixture is there anything i can pull to make the install easier? Does vdo make a a air/fuel gauge with the same look as the volvo gauges?

      thanks for your help
      Gene

The oil temp sensor replaces the drain plug on the pan. It has one wire that runs from it to the gauge. The oil pressure gauge uses a sensor that replaces the idiot light sensor on the left side of the block towards the front as you look at it from the front. Both gauges and sensors are an easy install. The gauges do look different from Volvo and the VDO catalog. VDO offers 5 or 6 styles that you can choose from.

it's funny you mention that, i was wondering the same thing. besides the volvo 740 i own, i also have a 86 volvo 245 estate that has all the wiring and guages. I'm selling it soon to make room for my driveway, and wanted to keep a few of the rare guages i searched high and low for.a few of them would do well in the 740 i have.
