ring gear 700

Can anyone tell me the exact position the ring gear should be in on a 1990 740 for the rpm sensor. Theres an arrow a void where there are no holes and two magnetic pins where should they be positioned and how can I check if its already installed besides takeing out the starter. When I hook up a timing light it shows 20 degs, it will run for about 10mins then quit and starts right back up hot or cold. I think its off a bolt hole on the ring gear. I need to know where all three sections should be the pins the void and the arrow. Thanks in advance.

ring gear 700

From the 700/900 FAQ:

"Turn the engine to #1 TDC (timing marks in line on crank pulley to pointer on timing belt cover), then install the flywheel so that the two rivet-like pins that are on flywheel inboard of ring gear about 1+ inch are on the exhaust side of block roughly at 2 o'clock and 3:30 while the engine is at TDC."

I'd take out the starter and check for the hole void, as that is easier than dropping the transmision (but you might have to anyway).
