Location of Engine Number Plate... 120-130 1967

Hello All:

1967 Volvo 122S wagon. This is really embarrassing, but I cannot seem to find the engine number. According to the manual it is on the right-hand-side of the engine. I assume that means the passenger side, but even so, I checked all over the engine and the only thing I found was on the upper left (driver's side) rear corner of the block a large "B18" actually cast onto the block. I believe there should be further information on a plate including the actual block serial number as well as a designation of 'B' or 'D' type but I crawled under the car, I hung over the engine, and could not find the damn thing. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Cheers,

Jeff Pucillo

Look on the left side of the block in the middle above the crankcase vent. You should see some embossed numbers then a small section with six numbers stamped on it. The number should begin 496---. I have a chart which identifies the engine number, engine type,BHP and type vehicle it came out of. Let me know what the number is and I will give you that info.

Hello Jim:

Thanks for the info. Will do. We are driving up to New Hampshire this weekend so I will report back on Monday. Is the chart to which you are referring the same one from the beginning of the shop manual?

Cheers,

Jeff Pucillo

I doubt it. I believe it was either a parts bulletin or a shop bulletin that I copied it from. I was a Volvo parts man for ten years so I had access to all the different shop and parts literature.

Jim
