hard shift AW70 200 1984

The shift from 1 to 2 in my 84 240 is becoming like a boot in the rear end. I see in the FAQ that it is likely due to the ball valves being worn. Is this a job that is fairly easily tackled ovet the weekend in my garage, or is it best left to a specialist?
If I am to do the job myself, are there other balls or items that should also be replaced whilst I am in the guts of the transmission?
TIA

The AW71L in my 940 used to do the same thing. I ripped out the valve body and replaced the check balls but it didn't make any difference. In my case it was the kickdown cable adjustment. It was too tight. This was despite being adjusted according to the volvo manual and the 700/900 FAQ. Loosening it off helped a lot.

If you're interested in tackling the valve body I made a website detailing my experience with the job. go to http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/~wightman.b/

    Hope this helps
