?Question Re: OE Volvo Exhaust Kits? 200

I just picked up an exhaust kit for a 1990 240 from the dealer. It seems to be a great item at a fair price. One thing I noticed is that the resonator-to-muffler pipe is the OVER-the-axle style which requires the resonator which has an ell on its outlet. I have not seen this type of exhaust pipe routing on a 240 in years.

Questions:

1/ Is the Volvo exhaust kit with the OVER-the-axle middle pipe the only one Volvo is now offering?

2/ Previously, I've seen mentioned on this forum that Volvo replacement mufflers have a lifetime warranty. Is that still the case?

Thanks, one and all,
Rich

    Rich,

I just helped my friend put a Volvo exhaust system on his '92 240. Yeah, the over the axle pipe is an update that Volvo now sells to replace the old ones. My '86 still has the one that runs under the axle. I'm not sure about the warranty on the exhaust. How much did the Volvo system run? I'm asking because I will soon need one for my '86. I put an aftermarket Starla on it several years ago and it has held up OK.

    Cheers,
    Dave

?Question Re: OE Volvo Exhaust Kits? 200

      Dave,

Damn, I always hated working on those those old school, over-the-axle pipes. Also, if memory serves me, they did not last as long. Well, there goes the possibility of dropping the system in one shot.

Anyway, I paid about $135 for the exhaust kit which includes EVERTHING from the cat back - that's all the rubber and those great Volvo clamps, too. I have developed a friendly relationship with the parts guy at the dealership based on the realities of my situation. I told him: Look, just like you, I do not want to pay more for something than I have to spend; I have four 240's and I plan to go to my grave driving them; I like to use OE parts whenever I can afford them and between the I-Net and UPS I can always find the best price. He must have appreciated my logic because he has been giving me the jobber price ever since.

      Rich

        Rich,

Darn, I paid that much for the rinky-dink Starla system. I need to do what you did and ask the local dealer for a discount on parts. I'm always buying parts from them. I especially use OE stuff when it comes to belts and hoses on these cars. I ordered cooling hoses from FCP once and they didn't fit right at all.

        Cheers,
        Dave
