Central Locking 700

The central locking on my 1991 740 has stopped working. I have to lock or unlock each door manually.
I have narrowed down the problem to the locking switch inside the door removing the inside door panel and fiddling around - I got it to work intermittently, it seems like a ban connection in or at the switch. I cannot see how to remove the locking switch, it seems to be too far out of reach behind steel reinforcing webs/panels in the door.
Can anyone help?
