I recently asked about the differences between a 1980 242gt and DL. Here is a picture of the car. The green is stock, however this car has the grill with foglights, air dam, and gt steering wheel. DL logo on trunk. Did they make any DL's with this grill? Could it be a foreign model? I would love to find out..

I have not followed this closely but the '80 GT did not have the flat tire wells, that is a characteristic only of the 78-79 GT, so in a 1980 car it is not diagnostic. Also, the grille could be a GT grille in a DL, or it could be an accessory fog grille for a 24x but the fogs were of DIFFERENT SIZES in those two types of grilles. One thing, the '80 GT came with the upgraded sway bars of later turbos (23/21) although those are easy to swap. Certainly, it is unlikely someone repainted a GT and removed all traces of GT interior though.

Hmm, thanks Bob, I didn't know that about the 1980 cars. I thought they all had the silly "inflator" spare tire.... How many people do you think ever successfully used that thing?

I think I covered it, in answering the previous post. Flat spare tire wells? It's a GT. Round spare tire wells that allow you to put in a normal size tire on the left? It's a DL.

And if the green is the factory color, it wasn't a GT. The foglight grille fits any with the flat hood, and the 242DL's from 75-80 all had a flat hood.

I had a 1980 DL with the GT style grill.
I think you could order the fog light option and they were in the grill.
If you don't have the orange stripe in the interior then it is most likely a DL.
