240 hood adjustment 200 1992

Hi,

I've recently noticed that the hood on my '92 240 is a bit misaligned.
On the driver's side the back part of the hood (when closed), where it hinges, is about one millimeter higher than the body. The other side sits flush whith the body.
After noticing this I began wathing the hood while drivng and it's a bit wobbly. It's jumps up while driving, and when there wind. After inspection it appears the hoods not shut evenly against the front locking plate, because of the misalignment.

SO.... Any tricky stuff on adjusting the hinges (those springs look awefully strong) and hood alignment?

Thanks in advance,

Dietbrand

240 hood adjustment 200 1992

I noticed last weekend that the rearmost 12 mm bolt near the Driver was loosened and had withdrawn about a quarter-inch...tightened it down...and presto...equal alignment...not sure how it happened, but I'll be watching in future.

Good Luck,
-Dennis

Don't forget to lube the hinges!
You would be surprised how much better they work.
I use lithium grease from a spray can.

Hello Dietbrand:

I just went through this with my '92-- in my case, the reason for the hood misalignment was that the hinge was bent. I replaced the hinge with one from a junkyard. Compare the hinges left and right to determine if yours is bent as well. In my case it was obvious-- the metal was fatigued to the point of breaking. You don't have to worry about the springs-- with the hood open they aren't a problem. The mechanism can be adjusted by loosening the 12mm bolts and moving the various parts relative to one another. It helps to have somebody to help hold the hood.

Good luck!
