I started my car the other morning and a light on the instrument panel was on. It looks kind of like a bulb with 6 little dashes sticking off the sides, kind of like if you were a kid drawing a sun. What does it mean? Engine seems fine and I don't notice anyhting wrong. It comes on all the time now.

That's the pre-explosion warning light a design feature left-over from the "Burger Wars" of the 1980s. People suspect that Volvo kept the design feature as a hedge against the upcoming Internet-Website Wars. Turbo Volvos, in particular, were equipped with self-destruct in case they were ever captured by an enemy industry. It means that your car is about to explode.

Seriously, though, it's just a bulb-out indicator.

Bulb out indicator. See the 700/900 FAQ for more details. It notes that a bulb is out in a two-blub parallel circuit such as brake lamps.

but its only the brakes lights if the light comes on WHEN you press the brakes...othertimes its rears, sides,mains etc...when you replace the bulb thats out also replace its opposite number or you can still get the light on due to the different current draw of the old and new bulbs...(go on ask me how i know that...)

could also be the rear fog light indicator. You'd be supprised how many people come to the shop saying they have a bulb out, and don't believe we just turned off the fog lights!!!
