I'm replacing my power steering with a manual rack, on an '84 240. Apparently the manual rack I bought from ebay is an 'early' pre-79 model, with a 14mm input, so it won't hook right up to the later-style lower U-joint, which looks more like a 19mm shaft. Nobody lists the early U-joint new, that I can find.
I'm wondering...can anyone out there tell me the exact steering shaft diameter and shaft count for the splined end of the steering shaft, where the lower U-joint slides onto it? And is it completely splined all the way around, or are there alignment 'gaps', as are found on the steering rack input shaft?
I'm asking this because I'm considering going with a part from Borgeson, http://www.borgeson.com/, who supply steering U-joints to the racing and streetrod crowds.
Thanks,
Mike
