240 Glove box 200

I took my glovebox out to install a stero. While it was out I noticed one of the two hinges was broken. Is there a way to just swap the hinges? The front of my glove box looks great, certainly better than what I normally see at the junkyard.

Let me know.

You mean the hinge along the bottom of the door, or the two arcs at the sides? Those arcs are a dealer part and are replaceable, although they are abundant in 240 in salvage yards so I do not know why anyone would pay full price, whatever that is. The trick to those is to pry the little barb that holds the thing in the glovebox door.

No, the actual hinges. The 'arcs' and the lock are the only thing holding the glove box cover on.

Does the face peel off the door? If so I might swap the box from my 85 to my 91 (blue vs black).

You'll find it alarmingly easy to pry the face off the old glovebox. It's just glued on with lousy glue that hardens and gets brittle.

The bottom hinge wears out as the plastic fatigues. There's very little that can be done about that. I've never seen an adequate repair.

I have replaced several boxes, and switched colors on a few like you're thinking of. Remove the lock cylinder, and make sure your lock is the same diameter- because across the 85/86 split there's a difference in the cylinders for some damn reason.

You can just pry off your glovebox face and glue it to a solid box though, and reinstall the lock cylinder. I remove all of the old dried up yellow glue, and use clear RTV silicone to stick on the new one. It's good to clamp it together somehow for a few hours till it dries some. Epoxy will work just fine too.

        Good luck with it!
