Food for thought? Integrated vs aluminum intake/exhaust 140-160

This topic was spurred by the thread in the 444/544 forum about exhaust manifolds.

Not using chokes, because neither of them really work or aren't fully setup to work due to missing pieces.

The 72 wagon has HS6s on the b20 integrated manifold, my 142 has the HIF6s on the b18 aluminum manifold(well, one of the multiple versions). Currently neither are using phenolic spacers, but both are using their respective heatshields. The 142 is much harder to start, possibly because I have it set a little leaner? But maybe not. I can't remember if I ever ran the integrated setup on my 142, but I think I did, and I think it started up much faster and ran better when cold like the 145 does now...

The current comparison is pretty sad... My 142 has pertronix ignition, everything else on the ignition(bosch blue coil, magnecore wires, plugs) are recent, within the last year new I'd say... The (newly rebuilt)carbs are pretty much perfectly balanced, and the mixture is pretty much perfect. (not as rich as the 145 though, I should experiment with richening the carbs on the 142 and see if it starts as fast as the 145. The 145 on the other hand, has old HS6s, that have throttle shafts that move around a decent amount, the rear carb has a slighty thicker mixture of ATF and whatever old fluid was in there(how do I fully empty it out?), and the rear carb currently opens a decent while before the front carb does when you start giving it throttle. The 145 runs great for what it is, but there is some whistling coming from the carbs right around half throttle, I'm assuming that has something to do with the carbs not opening at the same time and the differnence in damping.

Whatcha think about it?

I think you need to get busy and fix it!

Yeah... I should... but... I don't have the money, and I don't have the time because I'm currently either working, doing stuff online, eating, and/or sleeping... I need to cut down my online time so I actually get some more done. And work should settle down in a couple weeks. A bunch of people quit and/or were fired so I'm covering quite a bit... :-\ I'm not going to do much to the 145 though because it won't be legal to drive it around in another 10 days. I won't use it as a daily driver for another 5-6 months or so, so work on it will be slow, but hopefully I will actually work on it. ;-)
