I have this vague recollection of reading somewhere that a 120 series steering box has a "faster" ratio than a 140 one .... is this correct, and are they interchangeable ?

Just wondering whether it might be a good way to quicken up the steering on the rally car .... ie. fewer turns lock-to-lock.

Anyone out there in Brickboard-land know the answer ?

    mmmm ..... I was obviously dreaming !

    Seemed like a good simple idea at the time .... thanks for the input guys.

    Next task is fitting the 6 gauge R-Sport gauge cluster (maybe this weekend) ... hopefully that will go smoothly & all the wires will make sense !

    Have also scored some 145 springs for the back ..... just have to find some stiffer (NOT lowered) ones for the front now. Anyone know what the "free length" of a standard 140 front spring is ? It's about the only specification that isn't in the workshop manual ....

    I don't know, but the 1800 boxes are a lot quicker ratio than the Amazon boxes.

      Hmmm... every data sheet or road test that I've ever seen for the 1800 or the Amazon indicated 3.25 turns lock to lock. The 1800 has a slightly smaller turning circle (30 vs 32 feet), but that can be accounted for by the 6 inch shorter wheelbase. I always thought the steering components were very similar, if not the same.

        Hmmmm, myself... now I wonder where I got that info. I know that my '67 1800S sure feels a lot quicker than our '66 122S, with similar suspension mods, alignment settings and tire sizes. After driving only the 1800 for two years while restoring the Amazon, I remember being really surprised at how much I had to turn the 122's wheel to go around a corner once I started driving it again.

        The steering shafts are certainly not interchangeable. Hmmmmm.

    Don't know, but I see V-Performance is working on a rack 'n pinion kit. There are a few new developments for this year, including a 2.5L B20.
