740 16V oil pressure light

My son reports that the oil pressure light stays on longer than usual at start up, but will go out within a minute. I've checked the board FAQ's and it seems most postings on this topic deal with the light coming on after the engine has been running. We'll check(and probably change) the oil and filter, and I'll install a temporary mechanical gauge, but I'd appreciate some input from those of you with many more miles of experience. Also, if we end up changing the pump and tube O rings, is the proccess for the B234 similar to the B230?
Thanks to all!
Dave

oil light staying longer after start up is mostly caused by a bad oil filter, replace the filter and you should be fine.

Never seen an oil filter do this. Could you explain?

Was also under the (possibly misguided) impression that the oil light should not come on at all once the engine turns over UNLESS there is a problem. Now wondering if my bulb is burnt out...

I have seen this happen when the oil filter becomes clogged, the back flow valve drains the oil back leaving a dry filter. At start up, the pressure is still building up, hence the oil light staying on longer
