Chrysler distributor swap 200

Can anyone tell me what is required to swap out the dreaded chrysler distributor for a bosch unit on my 83 B23F LH-Jet ?

Is there an ignition problem, or just a general concern about this unit?

To further beat this already dead horse, the Chrysler white-cap in our 83 has been sparking reliably for 22 years. If I found a low-mileage 240 with the correct Bosch unit in the PnP, I might pull it just to have a spare (which could also replace the Bosch in the 81), but no way would I change out the Chrysler on general principle - or internet stories.

I dont know why you would want to. The chrysler is very reliable. And if the impulse coil dies, (this happens more often on the bosch) you simply remove the cap and slip it out, unplug it, slip in a new one, and probably available at most parts stores. The bosh distributor has to be removed to replace the pickup coil. And also please note, the ignition control unit for BOTH distributors is Chrysler.

I agree with the previous poster. I have an '82 with the white Chrysler distributer cap. It's been working great for many years. Why bother?

What is so bad about it besides a slightly more expensive cap?
