How do you jump start AC compressor? 700 1991

1. 1991 Volvo 745 Turbo
2. Each January I add a can of freon to my AC system. This year, it was running so good in January, I wanted to wait until February to add the freon. February came and went. March came and went. When I return to Houston from Banf Canada I tried the AC and it was hot. (Heat works, AC does not)
3. Try to add freon but noticed that compressor was not cycling on or engiaging to take in the freon.
4. Tried to jump start the compressor by disconnecting switch at dryer and jumping the two wires with AC turn on. This did not work.
5. Pulled MCC board to examine solder joints. Found one small crack and resolder it. Intstalled MCC board and tried to jump start the compressor via jumping the two wire at the dryer switch. This did not work.
6. Is there a way for me to jump start the compressor at the compressor. ie. Can I attach a wire from the positive side of battery directly to power wire of compressor to make the clutch engage.
7. Which wire on the compressor is the power wire. I have two on mine. One in the back of the compressor and one in the middle of the compressor. (The one in the middle of compressor is on top of the compressor.)

PS. Clutch on compressor moves freely and it not seized up. I belief it will not engage because the system is too low on freon. I thank you in advance for your advice and help.

    The compressor should have a wire going directly into the clutch. Usually black. You should be able to connect this to the pos side of your battery and see the clutch engage. The car does not have to be running to do this. If you have an ohm meter the clutch activation coil should have 3-4 ohms resistance. If it reads alot your clutch is bad or the compressor grouning connection is bad. My compressor has another wire towards the back (firewall) but it is a ground connected to the bracket bolt.

      Thanks for the reply. Found what you said to be true when I examine my compressor closer this past weekend. My compressor was indeed bad and I went to get another one at the local PNP. I tested the compressor by hooking up the detachable wire on compressor to postive side of the battery and running a ground wire from negagtive side of battery to metal part on car. Three of the compressor I tested were good and one was bad. I pulled and purchased the compressor that look the newest/cleanest. I also pulled and purchased two AC control board. One from a 1991 940 and one from a 1994 940 for future use if needed and or trade.

    It is low on freon and will not start because there is a pressure switch that tells the compressor not to move (more or less). Your 300zx is setup the same way. I learned from my 87 300z when I had it. By keeping the compressor from turning when low on freon it saves it. Anywho you will have to have it pumped down.
