760 Ti 700

hello. i am new to this forum and have a few questions. I was talking to a friend and now he is selling me his 760 intercooled Turbo. I know that these cars are fast, but how can I make it faster (without detonation)? please give me specific things that I can do. I do not yet know what year it is. from '84-'85 was all that I could find out by looking at the headlights, emblems, and searching online. perhaps one of you knows what years came with a white exterior and a red leather interior. anyway, thanks for any imput that you have. also, money is not an issue, but I do not really want to do an engine swap or change out the turbo. what can I do to convert it to the later water-cooled turbo setup?

Thanks,

Joe

    Here is a good resource:
    http://www.turbobricks.com/mods.php

These are the things I dream of doing:

Low risk modifications with little mechinical changes:

    1. Isuzu NPR Intercooler swap - yes, there is another intercooler that drops right in, at it comes from a little cab-over truck! Low risk, as it simply increases the cooling efficiency and ups the air pressure that reaches the turbo.

    2. Turbo Plus kit - an option on the 780, and a similiar package was installed on Saab 900s. Allows the boost pressure to rise to 12 psi (from the normal 8) max for short intervals. It's an OEM kit designed and tested on B230FT engines by the lovely engineers at Volvo = must be pretty darn safe!

    3. Cold air intake - I just inherited one with my 940 Turbo - my guess is it will reduce the air flow lost due to the normal airboxes' restrictions. (a guess - I have not installed it yet) - the Turbobricks site even has this crazy snorkel you can make - and it looks like it would work as there is a round knock-out just ahead of your airbox!

Low risk modifications with more mechanical effort required:

    1. better flowing head - i forget the # it is called 530 maybe??
    2. different OEM Volvo cam - amazing that there are quite a few different cams released for the B230FT engine!
    3. Not too sure about this one, but something about a Garret turbo charger rebuild that uses the T3 impeller and the T4 housing for better flow? (sorry I'm just brain storming here)
    4. MegaSquirt - not sure if this is just a B23 thing, or what it is, but it sounds like more fuel...
    5. 16V head on a B230FT block - ummm... I need to read more on this.

    Way too much:

    1. Volvo V8 - a Mustang 5.0 litre V8 apparently fits in quite nicely. By the classified ads though, it looks like you'll lose a lot of money when you decide to sell it. Still - a STUPIDLY fast brick is just the kind of sleeper people like me dream of building.

thanks for the reply. I have looked at the turbo+. way too expensive. I'll get the Saab APC. I don't think the 16 valve head would fit, maybe it would though, I haven't tried. My '85 245 is getting a chevy 350, my 760 will keep the slant four. can you imagine what a sleeper that would be? I can already beat quite a few of the ricers in my NA '82 244. I think I'll get that isuzu intercooler. I have some extra oil cooled volvo ones, but they don't cool enough. My cousin was telling me that he had a 740T with the turbo+ kit and he smoked every mustang that he raced.

Here's one more.... Way too much & nearly impossible to obtain, get a lot of admiration from the Volvo crowd:

For models sold in Italy, due to the fact that their vehicle taxes are based on engine displacement, Volvo B204FT was a 2.0 liter DOHC Turbo...

And there's some more reading material about this topic...
