Rear wiper and hatch door lock question 200 1993

Hello: I have a 1993 240 Wagon with 145K. Recently, the rear wiper stopped working. At the same time, the rear lock no longer locks when I lock all doors from the driver's door lock. Is this related ? My mechanic says that I need a new wiper motor. The two problems seem related to me since they both involve the rear door hatch. The driver's side hatch electrical harness was changed about a year ago. My question: Could changing the passenger side harness solve both problems, or, am I just wishing it could... Thanks everyone for your input.

Thanks everyone - called another shop and described the problem - right away they mentioned the right side harness - quoted about $120.00 to do the job. I'll bring her in.... really need that rear wiper !

Seems strange that the guy would replace the one side and not the other. Yeah, these problems are related, and related to the harness. You can do it yourself if you have a piece of wood (or a friend) for a prop rod, and don't mind getting a little gunk on your fingers from the sealant around the hinge. The harnesses run $20-something each at www.fcpgroton.com and other suppliers. Dealer price, about double that.

One of the two wires for the wiper motor and both of the wires for the locking solenoid run through right hinge. Sorry about that, as I know fixing them is a PITA.

    Good Luck,

    Bob
