coolant temp sensors 700 1990

Iam confused as to which sensor is which on my 1990 740gle 16valve. I replaced what I thought was the temp sensor only to read that there are two.I replaced the one with a white harness connector that can be replaced with a socket close to cylinder 1. Is the one next to it (looks between cylinder2and 3) the other one and what does it do . Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks Joe 87 240gl 150k 90740gle 150k

ihave a 90 gle too and i just went through all manner of temp snesor issues.

the engine coolant temp sensor is the one to the front of the engine in my car, not buried under the third intake. it is super easy to get to, unlike the other models of 740. the next sensor back sends a signal to the temp guage in the dash.

when you go to the auto parts store make sure they give you the right sensor for this car. i went through 2 sensors before realizing that they had been giving me the wrong sensor.

the one closest to the fire wall would be the temp sensor for the ecu cylinder 3 and 4
