My shop is recommending Bridgestone Turanza tires for our 965. I've read some reviews and don't like the feedback. Has anyone a suggestion for a decent set of rubber for the family truckster?

Hmmm....I've got the Turanza LS-T's on the 83 and on the Dodge Grand Caravan, two VERY different vehicles. Very smooth, fairly quiet (you will soon know in a 240 if you have noisy tires) and nice handling. Good cornering grip, no squeal until you get serious, and then predictable traction loss. Remember the "T" stands for touring - they are not a perfomance tire.

They required very little weight to get a quality balance, which I think indicates a well-made tire. Not great in snow, but good in rain - at least with the plentiful tread depth we have remaining. The minivan weighs 4100lbs and after 15k miles only about 1/4 of tread is gone.

I recently put Toyo Ultra on a 1989 740 and they are fine. There is also a Spectrum which is cheaper and also rated well. I did a lot of Googling for comments and reviews etc, and Toyo consistently got favorable comments.
I also have Bridgestone Turanza LS-Z on a mini-van and they are also fine.
My main concern is lousy rainy weather and grip in very wet conditions.

Try some Nokians, they're great all around. I have a set of the NRH on my 940t. wet handling is unbelievable

I second that motion:

I have Nokian WR+ and they are, unquestionably, the finest tires I have ever owned.

Unbelievable wet and Snow/Ice traction. No more need for a seperate pair of snow tires for me anymore.

Quiet, smooth, handle like a dream and pretty fair treadwear. Price is the only drawback-- thay aint cheap, about $130 a pop.

I am very pleased with my Goodrich T/A speed rated tires (directional rotation with angled tread) on my 91 940 turbo. They are not an inexpensive tire, but best all weather traction I've had on the car. Other tires I had, always broke lose on wet roads during a turn at speeds when should have had a grip.

I have Bridgestones on my wife's 944 and used them on my 245 until just recently. I liked them. They seemed comparable to Michilen X series tires except they were more resistant to the heat and sun that we have here in El Paso, Texas. They have generally lasted about 4 years for me (36-40K miles).

Thanks, Riverol, I should have mentioned that. I have winter tires mounted on "winter wheels". These would be for mild weather and low speed, around island driving. We don't have any highways here and I'm a slow-poke anyway. I'm not having trouble finding them I'm just looking for some opinions from the wise.
