Spark Plug Wires - Class C, E or F? 700

Volvo OEM Spark plug wires are Class "F". Aftermarket Spark Plug wires are Class "E". Both are made by Bougicord.

The FAQ references Class F as 180 degrees C and Class E as 160 degrees.

My question is are you running Class E or F? Is there a benefit (perhaps longterm durability) in purchasing Class F rather than E?

Also, my '89 760T has a Class "C" coil wire. The previous wire was affected by temp and the insulation was worn (where it was against a ground strap from valve cover). Should the coil wire also be class E or F?

    Before I found out the differences, I bought some "E" versions and have been running them very successfully in both turbo and NA cars, for at least five years.

      Thanks. Confirmed that FCP, IPD, and RPR all sell Bougicord aftermarket spark plug wires in a Class "E". As for the coil, FCP is Class "C", RPR is Class "E". Don't know on IPD's coil wire. On the other hand, Volvo OEM (Bougicord made in France) spark plug wire is Class "F" and the coil wire is also Class "F". Interestingly, Volvo OEM coil wire for the 240 Non Turbo engine is Class "C".

      Stated differently, according to Volvo, wire should be Class "F" for 740/760 Turbo and (I believe) Class "C" for 240 Non Turbo. And it appears that the coil wire should be the same class as the spark plug wires.

      As for the ratings, I've not located any reference to Class "C" on Bougicord's website or elsewhere.

        Correction: Volvo pulled the coil wire for an '88 740 Turbo, it was indeed a Class "F". It was naturally assumed that the '89 760 Turbo would be the same Class. The '89 760T coil wire was ordered and what arrived was surprisingly a Class "C1".

        I'm not familiar with Class "C1" and whether is replaces Class "F".

        Anyone have specs on the various Bougicord Spark/Coil cable classes, particularily, Class "C" and Class C1"?

    Get Bougicord F or Volvo spark plug and coil wires for performance and durability. Buy from Nick at www.fcpgroton.com which has the lowest prices and best service. If you like, tell them you were referred by Brickboard. Other sources are Swedish Engineering and Borton Volvo.
