For the most part it doesn't matter which way you connect the wires; speakers will work fine with either polarity. If you have very discerning ears, you might be able to tell the difference -- I have an audiophile friend who claims to be able to -- but if it doesn't sound right, just switch the wires. You won't do any harm to the speaker.

Before installing it back the way it was, see if you can figure out what made it fall out. If you can fix the root cause, you can prevent it from happening again.

For my two cents worth:

I have used a 1.5 volt DC battery(flashlight) and some wire attached to that battery.(This is to see the real polarity of the speaker). (To explain) "DC voltage" will send the speaker in one direction when you attach it to the speaker contacts (+)and/or (-)

NOW..... you attach your 1.5 volt battery(-) to the speaker(-)this can be done with any piece of tape; and the battery(+) to the speaker(+) (JUST TOUCH THE CONTACT POINT) your speaker(cone) will move either FORWARD (in the speaker basket) or BACKWARD (in the speaker basket) from its natural rest position.

This will tell you which is the real(+)and which is the real(-)

If the speaker(when you touch the (+)battery to the speaker and it moves FORWARD then that is the (+)and the other is the (-)

If when you touch the (+) to the speaker it moves BACKWARDS then the speakers(-)is the real (+) this means you attach your power side (+) to the speaker (-)so that both your right side and left side speakers are polarity "PHASED" with each other......This info will keep the audio nuts in there place.

Also as stated by other on this board .. ATTACH the speakers to your doors as if this was a "military project" and "money was no problem" Your doors open and slam shut everyday so make the job "BULLET PROOF" it will pay you back with a long life of maintenance free performance

what do i use to attach the wires to the nodes..
there seems to be a clear yellow residue on it

it feel out because the "wood" has become frayed
i am going to try to make it more solid by using wood putty

thanks
