Greetings all-
It is that time of the year where I have to get new tires for my wife's 1990 244. For the winter, I have the Nokian Hakkapeliitta; they have been great tires for Minnesota winters. I have an extra set of rims and want to get her some summer tires. The Mrs. likes a real smooth ride, and could care less about performance handling. I talked with a tire guy and he recommended Michelin Symmetrys but I don't know those tires.
Anyone have any thoughts/experiences?
Thanks-
Joe HC

Hey - I just re-shod my '93 Classic with Kumho Touring 795's, and the ride is super while retaining solid handling performance. Tire Rack had them at my office within 48 hours, and they were mounted & balanced by one of their installers in my area an hour later for $40....total was HALF what I'd have paid at a local 'Tire Center', and Tire Rack always follows up to make sure I'm happy. I've got Yokohama Avids on a 245 and am happy with them as well.
Good Luck!

If you like Nokian winter tires, you'll love their summer tires.Smooth quiet ride, great handling and wear, unbelievable handling in heavy rain. Check these out :

I haev the older version of these, the NRH and absoloutly love them. My wife told me that she never thought she could love a tire, but after running her 75 mile commute in heavy rain the first time, she told me to never buy anything else.I have to agree with her. After running on those things, driving on anything else in the rain is downright scary ( the Goodyear eagles I had on one car feel downright dangerous on the wet )

The Michelin Symmetry's on our Continental whine like crazy. I wouldn't get them again. I've got some kind of Firestone's on my '88 240 - don't advise the Symmetry.

I put Bridgestone Turanza LS-T's on the 83 in the 195/70-14 size. That's 10mm wider than stock spec, and of course they are taller too, so fill the wheel wells a bit more. The larger size has brought the odometer to dead accuracy.
Very smooth and quiet tires. The quiet is great because the 240 is loud enough as it is and there isn't much isolation from road noise. The tires were a good price from Tire Rack, and a local shop did the mount/balance. They needed very little weight to balance - in my view, a sign of good construction.
Previous to this I had put LS-T's on my wife's minivan, a rather heavy FWD car. After 15,000 miles, treadwear is minimal.

Tirerack surveys say they suck! Noisy, slippery, not that good on treadwear, and expensive for what you get.
For quiet, comfortable tires, look into Kumho Touring 795 or Yokohama Avid Touring. While being superior, they cost less than the Michelins too.

I second the pick for the Yokohama Avid Touring. Very nice tires for the money. The Cooper SLE Touring is also a good quality but inexpensive choice if you are not concerened about handling extremes, and are stocked by a lot of the smaller local tire retailers. Very quiet, smooth and long wearing.

Another vote for Yokohama Avid Touring. I'm also a very happy Tire Rack customer for many years.

I don't see anything but snow flakes in the future. Michelins normally run hard and pricey. I like my Conti Extremes, quiet and lots of grab. Go to tirerack.com and have a good long look.
BTW, my 164 needs new seats for the front. Know of anyone around here with 240 seats in reasonable condition?

I wish I did, my 77's seats are pretty bad too.
