1990 740 wet passenger floor

This seems to be a common problem, but I couldnt seem to find out what the solution was. My car NOT running (so its not the heater core) and the dashboard is out. I can see water as far up as the top right of the heater box.

What may be causing this leak?? I guess the windshields can leak, but that seems like a 240 thing. Maybe the drains for the windshield cowl are clogged...

Thanks for any help, guys!

Check the section on Interior Water Leaks: Loose Water Shields/Clogged Ventilation/AC Drains.in the Heating and Air Conditioning pages of FAQs. The note attributed to Steve Seekins. I corrected a situation similar to yours by carefully reaming out the drain port with a wire hanger. At your own risk though. Once the problem was fixed, a bigger hassle was removing the passenger side seat to allow the carpet to dry out.

I just took a really good look at it with my flashlight (dasboard is out, remember) and I narrowed the leak down to where the top of the heater box seals with the chassis. I believe it is where the HVAC gets its intake air. Anyways, is this just a bad seal for this box, or might there be other probs.

There is still a chance the leak is from something else in the same area. I also found some goop that somebody put at the base of the lower-passenger corner of the windshield. Maybe the windshield is/was leaking....

I have a huge puddle on my passenger front and rear floor now. Luckily I am doing and interior conversion right now so the carpets were already loose and i pulled them out to dry. (tan 740 interior-to-black 940 interior conversion)

What do you think is causing my leak??? Thanks!
