A/C evolution 200

I am looking for an A/C system for my 240.

Does anybody know the 'A/C evolution' of the Volvo 240.

what changes were made and when.

I have been offered a system from a 260 '81, seems a bit old. Will such a system be working as good as the ones from the last years of the 240.

A/C evolution 200

The factory AC sticker underhood on son's 81 states that different quantities of refrigerant are required for the 4cyl and 6cyl systems - so the 260 has something going on that might not make it a bolt-in on a 4cyl. I would certainly think that hoses and maybe compressor would be unique to the 260.

I'm aware of three "generations" of 200-series AC: the systems in our 81 and 83 which are R-12 and use the old York compressor, the systems on the B230 (85-up) engines with the rotary compressors and R-12 and (I believe) better evaporators, and the 1993 with the R-134a systems. With the 86-92 systems, the cost and complexity of converting to R-134a is quite reasonable.
