Getting Ready to replace sunroof seals. 200 1990

I'm getting ready to replace the sunroof seals on my 1990 244. Every time it rains, I sit down and get a wet butt and have to vacuum a 1/4 inch of water off the rear driver side floor board. I live in Southeast Texas and I think it rains every other day so this is getting old. Lately, whenever it looks like rain, I strap a tarp over my car so don't have to show up to work with a big wet spot on my pants. I don't have a garage at home.

I cleaned out the drains with some plastic coated cable (bought at lowe's for about 65 cents a foot) and this has helped some but a steady hard rain or car wash still gets everything wet. Does anybody that has done this job have any tips before I get started? Thanks.

Good you cleaned out the drains. IMO - Also check sunroof adjustments first before going after the seals. Those seals ain't cheap!

If you go ahead with the seals, get some 3M Plastic & Trim Adhesive to use. Great stuff! Are you doing both? The front is easy, the rear a little tougher to get at. After removing old seal, scrape and clean area carefully before applying sealant. You want a clean surface. Not too bad a job, but take your time and be patient putting in the new seal.

I think I'll replace both seals. The sunroof is a little out of adjustment so I was going to try to get it lined up right and figure it would be a good idea to replace the rear seal while I was doing it. The front seal is definitely bad, it's all torn apart. The rear doesn't look bad but I guess I just want to be sure to fix the leak.

Hello,

Your sunroof seals are likely not to blame.

There are drain holes (one on each corner seems to ring a bell) in the sunroof rails that clog easily. I'd get them blown out before you replace the seal.
