'89 740 Side View Mirror 700 1989

The mirror is broken in the passenger side view mirror of my '89 740. I can not figure out how to pull the mirror apart. Can anyone tell me how to pull this apart?

There is a small slot in the bottom of the mirror housing. Use a small screwdriver thru the slot to push the release for the glass sideways. There is a big ring inside and you rotate it away from the car to release the glass.

haynes manual shows that you push into a hole in the bottom to release the glass
I just replaced the whole assembly as it was knocked off in a parking accident, you snap off the inside trim and unbolt the assembly.
