Parking your car the hard way 200

Personally, I am a traditionalist in this respect. Some times I park with the nose in, other times with the rear in, but that's about my only variation over the theme.

Others have a far more creative approach, though. Here is a recent example from Sweden.

Parking your car the hard way 200

From looking at the picture, I was pretty sure there was another party involved with this accident, either a farm animal or another vehicle (but after reading the translation, I'm not so sure). Looking at the front of the 240, there's some severe trauma to the front left corner which could have been caused by either a cow, another vehicle, or the collision with the post. Looking at the trunk, the rear crumple zone is folded upwards at a decent angle. One of these events probably took place before the vehicle struck the telephone pole. The rollover must not have been that fast after the impact with the phone pole, since the cattle fence is supporting the front of the vehicle via the dashbord and the safety glass windshield isn't deformed much beyond the impact point (with the cattle fence post). However, the impact with the telephone pole must have been pretty fierce since it managed to snap the pole part way up rather than at the bottom.

However, using Babelfish, the text immediately below the last picture states: "This happened ( Monday ) Hope all cleared themselves. How husband succeed wheel of on a straight ways is another thing... collapse bonnet... and collapse telefonstolpen as become capture of auto...."

Her next post leaves me in awe of the abilities of Babelfish, and how I wish I could read Swedish.

    What year? Anything special? 200

Anyone have a guess as to what year that car is? It doesn't appear to have the side repeaters, which I seem to recall were added to the European 240s in 1982. It's also got the old-style mirrors, though they're white and presumably matched deliberately that way to the body.

Also, what's up with the dual-tip exhaust? It's not a GT with the strut-to-strut or firewall braces, but I see a Dalhems-labeled item near the pole in one of the pictures. I think there might be a little more to this car than just a rusted old beater that some crazy Swede took for a fast ride through the country and wrecked.

Drunk?? That is a pretty good end-over-end roll. Quick way to get the
battery out of the car too! I have seen a fair number of sideways rollovers
but not many like that. I'm going to send you an mpe file that gives another
slant on parking. If you can find a way to post it here I think it would be
great. Eager to hear more about your trip!

helt fantastiskt! hur den ens kan bli stående på det viset... fast den sitter väl fast på stolp resterna.. :)
Now ... what does that mean? I saw it on the same site.

Erling, How are things over there? Winter has hit here in the NE US and as you see on all the recent posts, bricks are hard(ly) starting.

How did your slot car place in the competition?

    Regards
    Miguel

      Hi Miguel -
      This is a rough translation:
"Quite fantastic! How can it end up like that ... but it is probably stuck on the remains of the pole."

At this end, the southwestern part of Norway, we have had a rather mild winter so far. No snow at all right now, but the temp keeps varying around freezing. I visited Barcelona, Spain, three weeks ago, and the night temperature was actually lower than it was at home. And now it is snowing even in the Sahara desert in Africa! Things have definitely a bit upside-down weather-wise this winter.

My slot car did quite well, thanks for asking! It ended up sixth overall in the 2004 World Proxy Race, with two flattering thirds (the California and Tasmania rounds) as its best individual results. The upcoming series will be for CanAm 1966-1974 cars, let me know if you'd like to join and I'll send you the rules!

      Regards,
      Erling.

Ah the Can Am's ... back when raw engine muscle was unleashed!

Quoting ..."Racing writer Pete Lyons summarized the cars and the series in the following excerpt from his book, Can-Am:"

"The Can-Am car combined rarefied aerospace science with the red-meat muscle of the dragster, the sophisticated European method with gaudy Indy showmanship. It all added up to the greatest auto racing show in the world, or so many of us thought, and for those of us who loved the Can-Am in its prime, nothing ever quite filled the void after it was gone."

Check out the Jim Hall Chaparral museum.

Send me a photo when you get it prepared. I'll pass on the offer to enter, I have a couple of projects due in the spring. I am a carpenter by trade, so I am busy with installing some Crown moulding at the moment, when spring hits I have a deck and a horse stable to build..

        Cheers,
        god lykke
        Miguel

Amazing! How can it stand in that position... it's probably resting on the left overs of the pillars.

I'm not good at translating but as close as I can get...

      Cheers
