So... I deceided to put on a coil. I know every one thinks the regina coils don't go bad but.. Mine was. Bought a used one for 70 bucks and all is well.

Thanks for all the input

i agree with pump relay/crank sensor and or noise suppresion relay, however who installed pump,it could be loose and swinging around in tank.i had that happen on a customers car years ago.i always zip tie pump to fuel guage sendor after that fiasco. joe,91 245gl/2000s70gltawd,80242gt,96850glt/ive got lots of kids!

Thanks all for the info! Put in new fuel pump relay. No change then this morning it wont start at all. No spark from the coil.

Hi there.
Check the wire connection for the RPM sensor at the firewall and at the sensor itself. If everything looks fine then you might have a sensor that failed internally.
Easy route is to change it,of course with a failing sensor you wont have spark at the coil.
Hope this help.
Charles.

I'd add a crank sensor to that list. That's a likely part to be going bad at this age. Possibly its wire is grounding out as the engine flexes on its mounts.

Good luck with it.

I don't see the fuel pump relay on your list. That is a suspect here. But when I had a problem with my 240 dying when turning hard to the left onlym it turned out to be corrosion in my fuse box. It might be worth your while to pull your fuel pump related fuses, clean the terminals and mayb put in new fuses.

I second the fuel relay and if you have a radio supression relay the wires loosen up and will cause you the same problem. I faught that one for 4 months.

when my 1990 740 regina ,after one yr of intermittent first time no start but started 2nd time around, died one wet morning,
car was towed to dealer,diag
bad fuel pump, asked me to change fuel pmp relay(declined cos I have just put in a newish one I got from ebay) and the crank sensor(RPM sensor)\

shot gun approach, worked for 2 yrs

As others suggest you may have to change the crank sensor and maybe resolder the pump relay or get a newish one from ebay.
