One of the more useful purchases.

Something my Dad always taught me: "you have to have good lighting." Go into his workshop and there's one fluorescent tube per 20sq ft of ceiling. There's no space to work but you sure can see!

~10yrs ago I bought one of the 150W trouble lights; enclosed in glass for wet weather; big clamp for affixing to things.

BUT. Here's the purchase I should have also bought 10yrs ago. I finally went and purchased the dual 500W halogen stand light. It's on a telescopic stand and can adjusted in a heap o' useful configurations.

The portable trouble lights are definitely handy and necessary but 1000W on a stand is simply GREAT. No more darkness for me!

    Halogen light - true story

A fellow here in Bartlesville had a shop with at least one halogen
light like you describe. He was working on a fuel injection system
in his garage. A hose broke and shot gasoline at high pressure into the
air. It hit the light, which blew up, starting quite a fire. He got it
out but suffered second and third degree burns over all his hands and
other parts of his body and was off work for more than a year. A Christian,
he accepted this and help from his church and displayed a tremendous attitude
in the face of extreme, long-term suffering. His hands were extremely tender
for a long time but he eventually got well enough that he could ride a
motorcycle. He went out for a ride one day on it and was killed.
His wife is coping but it hasn't been easy for her.

No halogen lights for me (maybe headlight sealed beams......).

I don't know how often this happens, but it startled me when it did: It was cold in the garage; the 500w light was only on for a minute when the halogen tube exploded sending those little cubes of the tempered glass cover all throughout the garage. The lamp had probably 20 hours of uneventful use (original bulb) prior; I just replaced the whole lamp. I doubt there was any injury risk, just glad that plate glass was there.

Yes, lack of good light and inability to focus were never obstacles for me at age 35.

I say the same thing to my kid my dad told me: "you can never have too much light".
