wagon electric antenna 700 1989

I can't seem to screw in the threaded base of my telescoping antenna sections into the ?? (seems like rubber ) about 2" into the tube.. This antenna was fully extended and has a clear plastic shrink wrap coil the same diameter as the tube. I opened trim panel, no help, nor Haynes manual. Is this the proper antenna, should it completely retract into the tube? I'm wondering how does an electric antenna work (cables?, a screw jack?, it's obviously not hydraulic and for a rack the pinion motor would not be at the base?)

Go to volvospeed and look under repairs - then under radio. The instructions there worked for me.

    Hello

Just overhauled 3 antennae, one for a 244DL, all metal and two for a 740GL. Confirm you have the Black Plastic Body. It is a toothed nylon track that is attached to the antenna. To remove the entire 3 section antenna from the Motor Body, there is a Sleeve that holds all in place, fitted through the top, before the last section. It should sit flush with the Brass Screw Section. That Brass Screw Section fits up through the Body of the car and your Square Trim with Slotted Nut fits over it and screws onto it. Be sure the Mast of the Antenna has a separate Grounding Wire.
