I have an 1988 740 series. On the first cold start it runs a second then dies. After each succsessive start it runs a few seconds longer then dies. After about 8 or 9 tries it runs ok a few seconds then acts like it is flooding then runs a few seconds then acts like it is flooding again. after about 15 minutes it kicks in and idles normally. I am not a mechanic and have limited experience. Please help. Thank you

Hi there.
I would start by checking and cleaning the (idle control valve).This device sits under the intake manifold and has 2 hoses running to it with an electric connection.It is covered in the FAQ under(Engine tune and performance).Also check the (Fuel pressure regulator,bolted on the fuel rail), also covered under (Engine:Fuel injection).Good luck and keep us posted about the results.
