High idle after hard driving, goes away with restart 200 1988

Hi guys,

something strange happens to my brick for the last few weeks. If I accelerate hard, at kickdown or near it, the idle becomes significally higher afterwards. To get it back to normal, I have to switch the ignition off and start it again.

I can drive hundred miles with idle ok, but once I overtake someone with my heavy leg on gas pedal, it's here. A quick restart procedure always helps, so I don't think it's a stuck cable. What do you think about it? My '88 240 has B230F engine and LH2.4 injection.

Not a big LH 2.4 guru but it sounds like the same problem that my 1984 245DL was having. Normal driving was great with a little movement at idle but when I would get on it to get out in front of someone or try to pass another car once I returned to idle the idle was about 500 RPM higher. Slapping the gas pedal down helped bring the idle back to normal.

I ended up removing the throttle body and giving it a good cleaning (it needed it), readjusted the idle and TPS, and check and replaced all leaking / old vacuum lines. In the end the car runs smoother and I do not have that high idle problem when I drive hard anymore. Good Luc and keep us posted!

Sincerely,
