when my '90 760 turob wagon (120000mi) is started in cold weather... 700

..(i usually start it, go back in the house for a few minutes).. if i listen from outside the car i hear what may be a bearing noise, hope its a fan belt though...
its intermittant and sometimes i don't hear it at all. kind of a 'chirping' sound...clears up after a minute or three..
i'm hoping a faulty trubo bearing would not be intermittant...
...
anybody with similiar symptoms here?

Take a small length of hose and hold one end to your ear. Take the other end like a stethascope and hold it to each pully to locate where the chirp is coming from . The Hose method is a great way to locate a squeak around a noisy engine. Start with the air conditioning compressor pulley which I think is all the way to the right looking into the engine compartment. I had that pulley chirping at me. If I squirted a little wd40 around behind the pulley the noise would go away. Really what I needed was AC service. After I had the AC serviced the noise went away. I also had the belts replaced at the same time so it could have been either one of those 2 things.

I would begin by looking at the water pump and the alternator and water pump belts. How cold is it there ? It is -20 F here, mine won't start since last Wednesday, different symptoms than yours is having though.

I had have a similar issue except that I have a N/A 240. It turns out that mine is a crappy power-stearing pump. It has always leaked somewhat, but never made any noise at all. Recently I let the car sit in near zero degree weather for more than a week and upon start up the thing sounds horrible....I thought for sure it was the waterpump, but while running there is a distinctive vibration to the pump and if i putt a bit of pressure on the pump the tone changes. after full warm-up the noise stops....just might be worth a look to see if that is the issue.
